How to Choose Your Dream Wedding Dress

Whether you have been dreaming of your wedding dress since you were a little girl, or you’ve never thought about it until the day has arrived for you to organize one, finding your dream wedding dress can be a stressful task.

No matter your budget, personal style, or timeline, these wedding dress shopping tips are guaranteed to help you say yes to the dress!

1) Do Research to Find Out What Style you Like.

Click through bridal boutiques online, explore on Pinterest, rip pages out of magazines and compile a visual file of your favorite dresses. Then look for a connecting theme— Do they all have an open back? Filled with lace? Simplistic? Embroidered? Find a few similar styles and bring your ideas with you to your first appointment.

2) Keep an Open Mind When Trying on Dresses.

So many brides will go to a store with their mind set on which style they want for their dress, they try it on and don’t actually love it. Instead, they will fall in love with a completely different style that they never believed they would love. Always keep an open mind while dress shopping and be open to try on different styles. You never know, you may find your dream dress that you never dreamed would be the yes dress.

3) Shop True to Your Size

Even if you plan on shredding for the wedding, shop for dresses in your current size rather than going smaller. It’s much easier to take a dress in than trying to work with one that’s way too snug.

4) Bring Heels With to Your Appointment

Bring along a pair of heels of the same height you think you’ll be wearing for your big day to help you have a better idea of how the dress will look.

5) Bring the Right Undergarments.

It can be hard to take in how a strapless dress really looks when your bright red straps are sticking out, or how a curve-hugging gown would fit once your hips are smoothed. For your appointments, wear a nude thong and strapless bra, and bring Spanx.

6) Don’t Try on Dresses Above your Budget.

If you can’t afford it, there’s no point in trying it on—you’re just torturing yourself and making a standard that no dress you can actually have will live up to.

7) Be 1000 Percent Sure Before You Say Yes.

You need to be 1000 percent sure that it’s your yes dress before you say yes to the dress. If you have even the slightest hesitation, rather try on another dress or two before you make your final decision. You don’t want to say yes now and regret it later.
